The first walk for the Sava confluence, 7.9., Radovljica
The confluence of the Sava Bohinjka and Sava Dolinka rivers is a cultural and historical crossroads, the birthplace of our longest river, the antipode of Triglav, and an area of natural value of national importance.
Would you like to visit it? You won't be able to. The landowner, who has been illegally interfering with the environment there for 25 years and wants to build a large tourist complex, will not allow you access to the confluence—even though, according to several laws, he is obligated to do so.
To draw the attention of the Radovljica authorities to these questionable actions, including the obstruction of access to the river, we—joined by representatives of civil initiatives and associations from all over the country, environmental experts, locals, and journalists—set off on a hike with a traveling exhibition to the confluence.
There, we saw with our own eyes what the local civil initiative Resisotočje has been warning us about for years. We were met by an impenetrable fence and a landowner who physically blocked access to the river. The case of the confluence is not the only one where local authorities and private interests ignore the rules when it suits them, without facing serious consequences. But those days are over. We successfully filed a report at the police station, and proceedings against the violators will continue. The story of the confluence is no longer just a local issue!
It brings together efforts from across the country—from experts and civil society—demanding that it remain unbuilt, permanently protected, and accessible!
The Sava Confluence belongs to EVERYONE, and above all, to NATURE.
Activists for rivers participated from the Coast, Zasavje, Ilirska Bistrica, Ljubljana, Kranj, Posočje, Radomlje, Nova Gorica, Škofja Loka, Bled, and elsewhere.
